Westridge Neighborhood Association
WHAT'S HAPPENING?
With the recent local break-ins and other crimes, we've consulted with Greensboro Police (including Steve Roberts at 373-7707, Crime Prevention for western Greensboro) and will be establishing a Neighborhood Watch. Crime prevention and being aware of your neighbors is a big part of this (more information on the 18 offenses ithis Spring available here ).
John & Lynn Thompson are graciously hosting the social (again). Recall that there is NO PARKING in bike lanes, so plan to walk/bike/carpool - park on Rock Haven Drive.
We also need to elect several replacement officers of the WNA board, and this is a good time to focus on issues that impact the area. We need a liason with the City to monitor compliance with the NCOD guidelines, and many people are interested in issues that affect the local environment.
WHY BOTHER?
Crime is up. We still don't know our neighbors well. Greensboro realtors may overlook NCOD status. We need some new officers. And, it's been too long since our last social.
OLD HEADLINE (from 6/4/2008):
The Westridge proposal was approved as presented June 2008 with City Council voting 8-0 to support of Greensboro's first Overlay District. Neighbors and friends turned out in force for a marathon meeting (thanks for all the support!)
WHAT IS THE Westridge NCOD? A voluntary set of zoning rules agreed upon by a majority of residential property owners living on Westridge Road. The purpose of the NCOD is to provide guidelines for future development along Westridge Road (specifically 802 Westridge to 1715 Westridge).
More information is available at the Greensboro Planning Department.
Note that many neighbors from nearby blocks supported the Westridge Neighborhood Association, and stayed until ~10pm when we finally finished (City Council still had more business afterwards). Preserving the overall character of the Westridge corridor affects our neighbors as well. THANKS AGAIN for the plentiful work, donations and advice of our neighbors!
HOW DOES the Westridge NCOD affect me?
Since it only applies to new construction, its primary impact is to encourage compatible development and enhance the neighborhood. The intent is to manage appropriate infill in the wooded, spacious acres of most Westridge properties. We welcome compatable development.
The guidelines apply to newly constructed homes or additions that exceed 25% of the footprint of the current home.
The WNA website is occasionally updated, but all old & archived information is available here
